    Join the Flathead Conservation District and local experts as they discuss pasture, forest, and weed management, pollinator and rain gardens, septic maintenance, wildfire preparedness, wildlife conflict mitigation, soil health, and more!   • Empowering Residents for Wildfire Preparedness

    Join FireSafe Flathead at various events throughout the year to help you prepare before wildfire season hits. Learn about seasonal fire conditions, how to harden your home, create and maintain a safe Home Ignition Zone, and participate in coordinated fuel reduction efforts to improve wildfire resilience and forest health. Plus, get expert advice on family evacuation planning and wildfire recovery.

  • MT Fish Wildlife and Parks Outdoor Activities

    Learn about Montana state parks, camping, hiking, biking, fishing, and more. Also check classes to get you and your family started hunting and boating safely.

  • MT Fish Wildlife and Parks Wildlife Walks and Classes

    Join MT Fish, Wildlife and Parks biologists on a guided wildlife walk, attend a workshop on how state biologists track wildlife, or visit the raptor rehabilitation center.   • Guided Bird Watching Tours

    Flathead Audubon Society works to conserve birds and wildlife habitat, as well as promote awareness and appreciation of the natural world through educational activities. Check out their fun year-round field trips, events, Birds of Prey Festival, and lectures.

  • Native Plant Talks and Field Trips

    Discover the beauty of our native plants and how to incorporate them into your garden. Join free field trips and monthly online talks offered by the MT Native Plant Society to explore the value of our native flora.

  • Nature Conservation Tours and Events

    Join a tour of a protected area to learn about the wildlife dependent on our landscapes. These tours, offered by the Flathead Land Trust in partnership with other groups, also contribute to landscape conservation efforts.

  • Glacier Institute Guided Tours and Nature Classes

    Deepen your understanding and appreciation of Glacier National Park and its surrounding environment, including our local ecology and geology, by participating in guided educational tours or enrolling in classes offered by the Glacier Institute. The Institute also provides youth summer camps that cater to a wide range of ages and abilities.

    Quench your thirst for science with these monthly fun and accessible science talks brought to you by the Flathead Lakers and Flathead Lake Biological Station (fall through spring). Also check past talks on the SOT-Flathead YouTube Channel.

  • Glacier Conversations and Talks

    The Glacier National Park Conservancy hosts both the online speaker series known as Glacier Conversations and the in-person Glacier's Native Speaks Program, alongside various other engaging events. For additional details, please visit their website.

  • Glacier National Park Events

    Discover the year-round special events, ranger-led activities, talks, and presentations at Glacier National Park. Enjoy easy walks, all-day hikes, boat tours, and evening talks. In the summer, join the Native America Speaks program to listen to members of the Blackfeet Nation and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes share their personal knowledge of history and culture.

  • Wilderness Speaker Series

    The annual Wilderness Speaker Series, hosted by the Bob Marshal Wilderness Foundation, takes place in the evenings on the third Wednesday of February, March, and April at the Flathead Valley Community College. The talks are open to the public and free of charge. Explore this year's lineup and connect with other wilderness enthusiasts.

  • Conservation Speaker Series

    Join the Lake County Conservation District for talks with local experts on a variety of topics ranging from wildlife management, local conservation efforts, and citizen science opportunities.

  • Flathead Trails Events

  • Flathead Lakers Events

    The Flathead Lakers work to protect clean water, healthy ecosystems, and a lasting quality of life in the Flathead watershed. They provide educational and fun events, opportunities to volunteer, and conduct research.   • Whitefish Lake Institute

    The Whitefish Lake Institute conducts research and provides education to assist citizens and resource managers in making informed decisions. You can visit WLI's website to find information about their seasonal "Science Quencher" Lightning Round Talks, where local scientists present their work, or explore opportunities to volunteer collecting water quality data in the Northwest Montana region.

  • Star Parties and Astronomy Club Meetings

    Join the Big Sky Astronomy Club, a group of dedicated amateur astronomers, to learn about the Flathead night sky. The Club holds monthly meetings on the third Friday of each month, Star Parties at Logan Pass during the summer, and other events.

  • Headwaters Podcast

    The Headwaters Podcast explores the natural and cultural history of Glacier National Park, , including the impacts of climate change on its landscapes and ecosystems, through storytelling and expert interviews.

  • Pesticide Container Recycling

    The MT Department of Agriculture sponsors pesticide container recycling throughout Montana. Learn what you can recycle, how to prepare containers, and find events near you. For Kalispell events, check the recycling Calendar.

  • April: Earth Month Events Calendar

    Find out what you can do during the month of April to celebrate Earth Day. The Calendar, maintained by Climate Smart Glacier Country is updated in March.

  • April: CSKT Earth Day Celebration

    Join the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes for an Earth Day celebration at the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. Learn more about youth tribal projects and collective actions the community can take.

  • April: CCL Earth Day Expo

    Earth Day Expo is a free all-day event, hosted by The Flathead Valley Chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby, to explore the interaction between nature and technology through engaging panel discussions, educational workshops, and interactive exhibits. The event fosters conversations for meaningful solutions to issues facing the Flathead Valley and all Montanans.

  • May: Free the Seeds-Land to Hand

    Join the annual Free the Seeds event in May, learn how to save your garden seeds in September, help package native wildflower seeds for distribution in October, and more.

  • May: Family Forestry Expo

    The Family Forestry Expo is an event that offers hands-on exposure to the role forests play in our everyday lives.

    The yearly event takes place through the dedicated involvement of over 30 diverse organizations such as local service clubs, forest industry, government natural resource agencies, conservation groups, professional societies, local businesses, many interested individuals and numerous local donations.

  • May: CSKT Annual River Honoring Event

    The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes host an annual river honoring to remind youth about the importance of the Flathead River. Schools from around the Reservation participate in a day of outdoor learning about the natural and cultural resources of the Lower Flathead River. In the evening, there are many events open to the public along with native games and educational stations. To learn the date and times for this event, please check the local news in early May.

  • August: Flathead Waters Clean Up

    The annual Flathead Waters Cleanup is a volunteer event dedicated to removing trash from the lakes and rivers in the Flathead Watershed. Trash can harm aquatic ecosystems and diminish our enjoyment of these stunning areas. Join this fun annual event and select your favorite recreational spot for cleanup. You can register to also win prizes for unique trash items, best photos, and more.

  • Sept-Oct: Jewel Basin Hawk Watch

    Join Flathead Audubon Society as a volunteer for the Jewel Basin Hawk Watch. Help monitor raptors during their peak migration in September and October each year. You can choose to volunteer casually or become an official observer.

  • Montana Lakes Conference

    Every four years, the Whitefish Lake Institute hosts a Lakes conference on the shores of Whitefish Lake. This conference serves as a platform to exchange information, scientific advancements, and management strategies that promote clean and healthy lake and reservoir ecosystems. We invite you to check resources from past conferences and participate in 2027.

  • Healthcare Solutions to Climate Change Webinar Series

    Join Montana Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate bimonthly virtual webinar series featuring live talks from Montana experts on climate change, healthcare, and the communities that benefit the most from climate-informed care. Discussions explore practical climate action in Montana's health departments and clinics.

    Join Montana Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate at their annual 'Climate and Health in the 406' conference and other events addressing the impacts of climate change on the health of Montanans.

  • Flathead Lake Biological Station Talks, Field Trips and Classes

    Learn about the research conducted by global-leading aquatic researchers at the Flathead Lake Biological Station, University of Montana. Join a talk, workshop, tour, or class.

    K-12 teachers and students can engage with the BioStation through field trips and hands-on investigations offered by the Flathead Lake Aquatic Research and Education program.

  • Flathead Valley Community College Lectures and Classes

    Flathead Valley Community College offers Lifelong Learning classes and lectures for the community, as well as summer classes and camps for children ages six and older.

  • Salish & Kootenai College

    Salish & Kootenai College is in Pablo, Montana. The college offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, summer camps for high school students, and continuing education for the community. The College offers a unique educational experience that blends Western academic knowledge with Native American perspectives and practices.
