Waste and Composting
Resources
It’s not easy to recycle in Northwest Montana. We are starting with resources:
How to Recycle in the Flathead Valley | Lake County
RECYCLE
Learn where you can recycle, repurpose, or fix stuff, dispose of Toxic Waste and more at the WasteNot! project website and the Flathead County Solid Waste webpage.
Medications, pharmaceutical waste, and plastics have found their way into Flathead waters.
Help keep waters clean by recycling, reducing plastic waste, and disposing of medications, electronics, other household toxic waste at designated locations.
COMPOST
Composting reduces waste in the Flathead County Landfill, enriches our soils, and reduces methane gas emissions. Using compost in your garden also has many benefits, from reduced soil erosion, better water drainage, and healthier soils and plants.
Learn how to compost food scraps and yard waste with the Guide to Cold-Weather Composting.
Where can I compost? Bears and animals love compost. Plan accordingly.
Dirt Rich provides multiple composting services in the area: they pick up food scraps (and some compostable containers), assist with composting at community events, and have drop off locations with a one-time fee for visitors.
